Hut to Hut in the Cariboo Mountains
Location: Cariboo Mountains, Wells Gray Park, Clearwater, BC
Date: July 20th - 26th, 2010
Cost: $975.00 (includes meals, guide, accommodation on the trip, and transportation to and from trail head.)

This seven-day trek in the Cariboo Mountains is a true back country adventure - an invigorating experience that will leave you feeling energized and renewed.   The mountain range offers superb hiking, passing through mature forests, alpine meadows and remote areas of craggy peaks, with views of thousands of wild flowers, pristine lakes and refreshing streams.  Participants will enjoy three very comfortable well-equipped alpine chalets strategically situated to showcase the deluge of magnificent scenery and mountainous terrain that they will be exploring.

At each chalet, we settle-in, relax, and the following day we do short hikes -  exploring the surrounding area, enjoying scenery, swimming, and bagging a peak or two. We allow a full day for traversing to the next chalet. The traverse along ridges, through valleys and across mountain streams provide endless views of mountain peaks etched against the open skies - fantastic opportunities for photography! Choose your backdrop.

This is an intermediate level hike.  Hiking experience is recommended.  Participants must be able to hike five to seven hours most days and carry a 20 to 25 - pound pack (spare clothing, camera, water bottle, lunch and some fresh fruit and vegetables.), with plenty of breaks and snacks and time to explore interesting areas.  Day trips will be lighter.

Participants will be transported from Clearwater to the trailhead in Wells Gray Park where the hike begins. From there we’ll hike several hours to our first back country hut, Trophy Mountain Chalet, at 7000ft. (a 1700ft. gain) and settle-in.  Trophy Mouuntain, Discovery and Fight Chalets are very cozy, well provisioned, equipped, heated and maintained; sleeps ten people comfortably and all beds have duvets to keep you warm at night.  Sorry, no indoor plumbing in the back country.  Outdoor privies are provided.

Throughout the trip there will be lots of time for quiet moments and tranquility (you don’t even have to do the day trips), relaxing evenings in a cozy chalet, reading books, playing games, good conversations and storytelling.  There will be many opportunities to learn about the flora and fauna of the area, spot bald eagles, whiskey jacks, alpine -peakas (called Mickey Mouse because of their rounded ears), caribou and others; as well as gather some historical and cultural information about the native Indians, the original inhabitants and how Battle Mountain got its name.

Meals are generous and deliciously prepared.  We cater to food requirements if sufficient notice is received.

Go-Outdoors and the Cariboo Mountains welcomes you to this active and pleasurable mountain hike and the opportunity to explore a remote back country filled with unending surprises and overwhelming glimpses of the beauty and simplicity of nature.
